| Wow, a lot can change in a little time! |

| So much seems to have happened, but in some ways not much has happened. I feel much happier now, to say the least. Christmas festivities were quite a downer, given the declined referral... however, we got through them, and most of January continued with much depression. Then, I had a little lift when I finally called (couldn't resist) 1/2-way through January to see where we were on the list. We had great news that we were 2nd on the list, and that H. was down in Guatemala and had just sent news that she was bringing back girl referrals! Then, two days later (much earlier than I had expected), M. called to pass on some news from H., that she was to tell me about a little baby girl, born 1/11. I was quiet, as she told me all the particulars. Then silence. She asked what I was thinking. "I am waiting for you to say, 'but,'" I said. She laughed. I told her I had to call Lee, and she said of course... but, of course, he said if I thought she sounded healthy, then go ahead. Well, in the meantime, M. was sending us photos. The photos wouldn't have mattered, but we waited for them to come and then called and accepted. That was QUITE an emotional day, January 19, 2006. Followed by an emotional evening and next day, as we hurriedly forwarded photos to friends and relatives, and answered phone call after phone call! Then, of course, there was the NAME question. This was quite an ordeal, as Lee and I had completely different ideas about names. Of course, we both loved Estella, but that was quite unpopular with everyone we ever had asked of their opinion. We finally narrowed about 35 names down to two, Estella and Zoe. We finally decided on Zoe. I have always liked that name... and after the long decision, Lee said we can always tell people we had to look through the entire baby name book before we found a name we liked! Anyway, the middle names were all up to me... . We really wanted to hang onto the birth name, but then I just didn't LIKE the birthname, or maybe subconsciously I just wanted to name my baby myself, I dunno. Anyway, we ended up with Zoe Mariana Silvia Lastname. Her first name given and shared by her firstmother was Ana, and her mother's middle name is Silvia... so actually, birthmother's entire name is part of Zoe's name. Mariana is special because I have always wanted to name a daughter after my grandmother, whose name is Mary, nicknamed Molly. Also, Mariana combines parts of the name of dh's two sister's, Mary and Diana. The name is a big hit with the families! Then we got great news that we coudl send a package to Guatemala... and I lucked out and was able to send a BIG package (a suitcase full!). So I shopped a little more, washed clothes in Dreft, and packed and repacked 0-3mo. sized clothes, the teddy bear Lee has been sleeping with, a blanket and some cameras. As the clothes washed, I kept opening the washing machine, staring at the clothes, as if that would bring me closer to her. Strange, I know. Then the mailing of the package to fellow adoptive parent, R. He was a really nice man; we had chatted on the phone the evening before. I had problems with the postal service, and had to run around looking for a box in which to pack my suitcase. I ended up crying, as I was really tired and had been rained on. The next day Lee went with me to the post office and we paid double to get Express Mail. Anway, apparently all arrived for R. to take to Guatemala. I hope I get pictures soon to see if she is wearing any of the items I sent. I also went one weekend and painted letters for her room. They turned out really cute. Of course, my best friend that was with me was a little hurt, as she came in, saw the letters, and realized I had not told her the name we chose! Oops! Anyway, Lee is out of town and i cannot sleep! I should be writing my thesis, but I am tired and cant' think clearly. Plus I have to go to work tomorrow for an emergency. Ugh! Wish I could go to an island and finish my thesis ... but I need the pay to help fund our visit trip, etc.! Well, I need to try to get a few hours sleep! D. |
